CSIRO enable nitrogen tests from satellite

Anastasia Volkova, PhD
Chief Executive Officer

FluroSat is delighted to share that it has recently secured the license to CSIRO's NutriLogic nutrient management model, which is now integrated into the FluroSense platform.

Based on NutriLogic cotton nitrogen model, the in-field petiole and tissue test of the crop can be combined with the remote sensing imagery to determine the nutrient requirements of the crop at every given growth stage of cotton, as well as mapping the nitrogen levels of crop across the field and producing the Nitrogen recommendation map.

This integration of the world-class scientific cotton nutrition model allows agronomists to make a nitrogen recommendation using remote imagery and if using the first time, a few plant petiole samples. Once the nitrogen map is calibrated after 1-2 sampling events, the algorithm generates the Nitrogen recommendation for the remainder of the season!

CSIRO, senior research scientist, Dr Michael Bange, Senior Research Scientist at CSIRO said licencing NutriLogic to FluroSat was an exciting opportunity for the cotton research group.

One challenge for us has been to link our tools to broader efforts in collecting agronomic information and precision agriculture.

Our relationship with Flurosat using the Flurosense platform expands our ability to deliver our science in a timely and effective way when it is needed most

Dr Michael Bange, Senior Research Scientist at CSIRO

Dr Bange said as an industry developed tool, NutriLogic would remain available to cotton farmers through the CottAssist platform and if other platforms were interested in licencing the data they could potentially do so as the agreement with FluroSat was non-exclusive.
