Making Sense of 45Z: Can Fuel and Food Co-Finance the Regenerative Transition?

Wednesday, Oct 28, 2026 1:00 PM Central /  /

Regrow and Richards Lake Partners are excited to bring you a session on the overlap between food and fuel supply chains through the lens of 45Z, the Clean Fuel Production Credit. Join us to understand the scale and scope of this incentive, as well as opportunities for collaboration within specific crop supply chains.

With the USDA's 45Z regenerative ag guidance now settled, fuel producers have begun paying farmers to lower the Carbon Intensity (CI) of their feedstocks through conservation tillage, cover cropping and nitrogen management. Meanwhile, food and beverage companies have been funding the same set of practices, often with the same farmers, through their own sustainability programs.

Both markets are now competing for farmer attention. Can they work together instead?

On October 28th @ 1:00 PM Central, we’ll walk through how 45Z works, where the money goes, and what it means for corn, soy and the crops that rotate with them. Then we’ll get practical: how fuel and food companies can stack incentives and build programs that deliver for both growers and their supply chain partners. You’ll leave knowing where 45Z shows up in your supply chain and what to talk through with your suppliers or customers.

Learn:

  • The basics of 45Z: CI scoring, qualifying crops and practices, and the USDA’s FD-CIC calculator
  • How corn, soy and rotation crops split between fuel, feed and food
  • Why geography matters, and which regions stand to earn the most
  • How suppliers and food companies can stack incentives, and considerations for existing commitments
  • What’s settled, what’s still open, and how durable the credit is likely to be

45Z programs are already paying farmers, and decisions about this year’s crop are being made now. Whether you work in sustainable procurement, grain merchandising or conservation programs, bring your questions and have them answered live.
